About the Book
A twenty-year diary of healing, loss, and the search for the inner child
This book traces one woman's journey toward healing from childhood trauma through psychological counseling. It is drawn from Drop+Kiss...+, a diary Nana Hinase began writing at the age of sixteen and continued for twenty years — amounting to some ten million characters in Japanese, roughly equivalent to one hundred books.
Her journey unfolds across three dimensions: psychological (confronting childhood trauma, dissociative identity disorder, and complex PTSD through psychotherapy); personal (navigating loss and new encounters); and spiritual (moving from separation toward integration, from loneliness toward prayer). Over time, and especially after the death of her counselor, she found her way to her inner child — what she came to call an inside-out way of living.
The book is composed from diary excerpts, medical records obtained through formal disclosure requests (over 700 pages of documentation), and observations by physicians and clinical psychologists. It sits on the side of experience rather than theory — tracing the subject's inner life from within.

A Secret
With one hand,
the world seems to hide a great secret from us,
while with the other,
it shows us the truth.
We,
by loving one another,
can see that truth.
Even if we never come to know the secret,
to love is the answer —
and we respond
with gratitude and prayer.
For a moment,
that was how it felt.
Structure
Three parts. Seventeen chapters.
Part One
Emotions Are the Language of the Soul
The first five years of counseling. Hinase, unable even to recognize that she herself was wounded, begins to move forward by listening to her emotions. A profound loss leaves a deep mark.
Part Two
Facing Is an Act of Love
Roughly five years in which she confronts her own past — one she had kept hidden deep within her heart and tried not to see.
Part Three
Perspective Shapes Perception, and Perception Shapes Experience
A spiritual journey. After losing someone she loved, she does not try to eliminate her trauma. Through inner transformation, her way of perceiving changes — and with it, her experience itself.

Nana Hinase is the author of Drop+Kiss...+, a twenty-year diary chronicling her journey toward healing from childhood trauma through psychological counseling. Begun at the age of sixteen, the diary unfolds with the lyrical intensity of a single extended poem. She was born in Mie, Japan in 1988.

Masaya Shikishima
Masaya Shikishima serves as editor and compiler of Drop+Kiss...+. Trained in physical chemistry, where he completed a master's degree, he later moved across the humanities, engaging with philosophy, psychology, and religious thought. Following Nana Hinase's passing, he undertook the long-term editorial shaping of her twenty-year diary. He is the representative director of andnp Corp.

Hiroyuki Uchida, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and Director of the Ginan Counseling Room.
